Later that evening, Rory opened her front door to discover Tabitha Halliwell on her doorstep.

“You left this in the office the other day.” Tabitha smiled and held out a cell phone. “Sorry I didn’t return it sooner, but I just found it. I hope you don’t mind me coming to your house.”

Rory stared down at the unfamiliar phone. “It’s not mine.”

“Really? I was sure it was yours.” Tabitha pressed it into Rory’s hands. “Maybe you can help me figure out who it belongs to. Go on, take a look at it. Maybe you’ll recognize a phone number or something.”

Rory cast a puzzled glance at the woman before examining the phone. Only a half dozen calls had been made on it, all to a number that seemed familiar. “Come on in. Let me check something.”

Rory led the way into her work area and picked up her own cell phone. She scrolled through her contact list until she found the same number that was on the mystery phone. She sank down onto a chair. “This was used to call Zelena.” When Tabitha didn’t respond, Rory looked at her more closely. The woman avoided Rory’s gaze.

“But you know that, don’t you?” Rory said softly.

Tabitha sat down on the other chair. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Rory laid a reassuring hand on the woman’s arm. “Where did you really find this phone?”

Tabitha looked up. “In Mr. Geller’s office. That’s the truth.”

“But you knew it wasn’t mine.”

She slowly nodded her head. “I didn’t recognize it so I looked at it to see if I could figure out who it belonged to. When I saw what was on it, it scared me.”

“Did you recognize the phone number?”

“No. It’s the emails. Look at them.”

Rory flipped through the messages. One of them matched the email from the stalker Rory had found in Zelena’s spam folder. When she checked the photo gallery on the phone, she found even more pictures taken of Zelena shopping, entering and exiting her apartment as well as walking around town. “I see what you mean.”

“I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I was afraid, well, that Mr. Geller might be involved with Ms. Alvarez’s death somehow. I didn’t want to bring it up with him. My job, you know. Then I thought of you, how you have experience investigating these kinds of things.”

“You did the right thing, bringing it to me. I’ll see the police get it.” Rory carefully placed the phone on her desk. “I’d better not handle it anymore. There might be prints on it. Why do you think Edgar’s involved?”

“He’s been acting a little weird lately. Especially when Zelena’s name comes up.”

“Have you ever seen him with this phone?”

“Maybe. I’m not really sure.”

“Exactly where in the office did you find it?”

“Under his desk.”

“So anyone could have dropped it there.” Rory wrinkled her brow in thought.

“I wouldn’t say anyone. I’m there throughout the day. I’d have noticed if someone went into his office.”

“What about lunchtime? Bathroom breaks?”

“I eat at my desk.
